COVID-19 Notice
The services we provide are essential to the health and well-being of the residents of Corpus Christi and the surrounding areas. Therefore, Coastal Bend Eye is committed to providing ongoing care during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Coastal Bend Eye has always honored its obligation to do our very best to protect our patients and staff from infectious diseases and any other known or unforseen risks that may occur in any health care setting. In order to best protect our patients and staff from COVID-19, Coastal Bend Eye is following guidelines from the United States Centers for Disease Control and the Texas Department of Human Health Services regarding social distance and safe re-opening.
Resuming Routine Eye Care, Contact Lens Care and Elective Surgery: May 1, 2020
Coastal Bend Eye and Coastal Bend Ambulatory Surgical have certified with the Texas Department of Health and Human Services that we have an adequate supply of personal protective equipment and will reserve hospital capacity for COVID-19 patients. Therefore we are resuming elective care on May 1, 2020. We want all of our patients to feel reassured that we can safely offer eye exams, cataract treatment, LASIK and refractive surgery, eyeglasses and contact lens eye care during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Face Coverings Required: April 23 – June 1, 2020
In order to best protect our patients and staff from COVID-19, Coastal Bend Eye requires that all people cover their mouth and nose while in the office.
Examples of acceptable face covering include a disposable surgical mask, a cloth mask, a neck gaiter, or a cloth bandana covering the mouth and nose.
For the convenience of our patients and visitors who do not have a mask, we have a limited number of cloth masks for sale for $10. We cannot accept any returns or offer any refunds on purchased masks.
Social Distancing Policy: April 23 – June 1, 2020
Patients who require a companion to assist in navigating our office, in understanding their conversations with the doctor, or to provide comfort may bring one adult companion to accompany them during their visit.
Children must be accompanied with a parent or guardian during their visit, however only one child and one adult from a household may be present at any given time.
We are doing our very best to reduce the amount of time spent in our waiting room. Patients who wish to wait in their car may leave a phone number with staff to be called into the office when ready.
We encourage hand hygiene and discourage wearing disposable gloves
Hand hygiene offers the best defense against contracting COVID-19. Proper hand hygiene includes frequent washing of hands and use of alcohol based hand sanitizer when hand washing is not possible.
Coastal Bend Eye offers frequent opportunity to wash hands in sinks in our exam rooms and patient restrooms. Furthermore Coastal Bend Eye has dispensers for alcohol based hand sanitizer conveniently located throughout our offices.
Disposable gloves are useful to prevent cross-contamination for example after performing a dirty task. However gloves must be disposed after any potentially soiled contact. Wearing gloves while touching a door handle, followed by touching your personal belongings or touching your face increases the risk of exposure to COVID-19 to the extent that gloves prevent proper hand hygiene.
The safest and best way to reduce the risk of catching COVID-19 is to frequently wash your hands.
